Evanescence: Taking Over Me Meaning
Taking Over Me Lyrics
i lie awake and try so hard not to think of you
but who can decide what they dream?
and dream i do...
i believe in you
i'll give up everything just to find you
i have to be with you to live to...

#1 top rated interpretation:This one I picture to me about what's happened in my life. I knew this boy when I was very young and I think it was meant to be for us to be together but for one reason or another we grew up and went in different directions and probably wouldn't even know who one another was if we saw eachother on the streets but I keep having dreams about a male who has dark hair and light blue eyes that for some reason I feel is my destiny to be with one day. As I get older he gets older and as my appearance changed so did his but that same feeling is there when I dream of him. I believe in him cause I know at one time he was a real person and so back to the song. I feel like in the song it's like my life I am in a relationship that is going through some hard times (and it's my secret about this guy I dream of) and I meet him... The person I have been dreaming of all this time and know it's him right away and thus"you don't remember me but I remwember you, I lie awake and try so hard not to think of you (cause I shouldn't be thinking about someone else when I am with someone)
but like amy says "but who can decide what they dream and dream I do"
i get so inpired by this song cause when my boyfriend upsets me I can think about the boy in my dream and think to myself "I believe in you and will give up everything just to find you" I feel like I "have to be with you" so that I can finally live and breathe and the the urge is "taking over me"
course that's just how I like the interpretation to be about. It's different for everyone. But it's pretty good though huh?

#2 top rated interpretation:I think this song is about how a girl(Amy) is so in love with a guy that's gone, to where, she doesn't know. It's like he went somewhere, and she doesn't know where. and she can't live without him. She believes he's out there, and that she'd give anything to find him.
I beleive in you
I'll give up everything just to find you
I have to be with you to live to breathe
your taking over me
when she says he's taking over her, he's all she can think about, and it's taking over her life, she misses him so much. and she can't take it anymore. It's driving her crazy. all she sees is him everywhere she goes.
You don't remember me but I
remember you
i lie awake and I try so hard not to think of you
but who can decide
what they dream
and dream I do
she thinks he doesn't remember her, and wonders if her forgot her. Those lines pretty much tells it all
have you forgotten all I know
and all we had
she wonders if he remembers anything they've been through before he disappeared.
so basically the fact that she misses him so much is taking over her life, it's all she can think about, and it's getting to her. She's having a breakdown -
Life gets tough, changes things and changes souls. We get lost and want to be ourself again. Knowing and believing you're still there, somewhere from within. Believing in yourself, that you will grow through the pain, and will be you again. You're still there, within you, and it's fighting until you're you again.
-
I think it means she's in love with a guy whom she barely knows ("You don't remember me but I remember you"). She becomes so obsessed with him that she can think if nothing else ("I believe in you I'll give up everything just to find you I have to be with you to live to breathe you're taking over me"). She remembers the one time she ever spoke to him and longs for it ("You saw me mourning my love for you and touched my hand"). She thinks if she only found him, they could be together again ("I knew you loved me then I believe in you").

At first I thought it was about Jesus but at certain parts it seems she is talking about demons, like when she's says about when she looks in the mirror and she sees lots of things just like you taking over me or something like that, that would be demons not Jesus, Mabie it's about both and she's just confused at that point in her life with who's what.

Its about having feelings for someone you let go somehow and even though you know you need to move on, your heart is controlling your mind causing you to be obsessed with that person. No matter how hard you try, the more you try, the more you think of them. So they are therefore taking over your thoughts, your life, you.
-
I think its when she meets somone and she falls in love like when somone you just meet in orchestra class in middle school and hes asked for your bow and he acsadentaly touches your hand and you cant forget about that happening cuz you like them thats what this song reminds me of
-
i think its about somone that you see most of the year and helps you all(most of) the time that knows when somthings wrong and is so nice that you cant whait to see again but you cant for some resson

I believe this song actually contains a deep religious meaning. saying at one point in the song that she had lost faith in god, "mourning my love for you." She had felt he loved her before "i knew you loved me then," and now she is screaming out for him and wants to feel him with her again telling him she believes in him, and he comes. I believe the lyrics "you saw me mourning my love for you, and touched my hand" is god returning to her, and she can feel him once more and this feeling is taking over her.

You once new a boy, who you fell inlove with and he loved you... he went away, but you never forgot him. As you got older, he was still in your head, a mystery on the edge of your conciousness. You find him again, but he has forgotten you, he slowly is takeing over you. You dream of him, you believe in him. But he never remembers you, and your in that strange state of nothingness, waiting for him...
Its taking over -
This song is abput her sister who died at the age of 6 from an unknowen diesase and how she misses her and wishes that she meet her and had more time with her.

I personally think this song is about a girl who had someone really close to her in the past. Then they seperated later on in life as she grew up. She doesn't know what happened to this person, but she knows she still loves this person. She eventually sees how deeply it is affecting her life and has a major breakdown. During this major breakdown, she searches and searches for this person. Desperately trying to reach out to this person, but the person still has not been found. Her thoughts stay focused on this person and it is taking over her life because she knows she can not go on without this person. She needs to know or her life will be a complete mess without them because she still loves them. This person is obviously the best thing that happened in her life and now that she has lost this person, she is going crazy. She has to find them because she cares about them so deeply and wants to reconnect. She thinks the person doesn't remember her because it seems that since she hasn't found this person, this person isn't looking for her. I think it is all about the power of love and how we can not go on without it. We need love in our life or we will have breakdowns, like this girl did. The message simply is: love is the greatest thing in a person's life and you can not let it go.

you're definetily correct!! Jesus should always be in our lives. Alot of people turn away from Him, and He cannot be there for them if they don't believe in His love! But, in this song, she might be looking for ways to get closer to Him, and stay with Him. She wants to love Jesus with all her heart, and to just stay happy and believe in the Lord.
-
Seriously? This song is totally about Jesus. In this song she's confessing that she believes in Him, and He's become everything to her. Now she needs him with her just to live. I think that's why she seems depressed, because she's known Jesus, but she's fallen away. That can be pretty depressing.

This song, like all the songs on Evanescences' first album, focuses on sadness and loss, despair and helplessness. The loss she articulates in this song could be obviously interpreted as a break up or someone who she loved greatly that cast her aside and did not return her love, or possibly returned it with abuse. Though the abuse theme I seem to find in a lot of her songs isn't as apparent in this particular song. The "she" I mention in my interpretation does not necessarily mean Amy Lee, the she is the person these feelings are coming from and I do not assume to know about her life and what she has gone through.
"You don't remember me but I remember you.
I lie awake and try so hard not to think of you.
But who can decide what they dream,
and dream I do."
She's rying to reach out to this loved one, a parent, a brother, sister, it could be anyone she cherished. These attempts have gone ignored, or unnoticed. She feels lost and desperate to connect with this person. She cannot help but have this person constantly in her thoughts and dreams.
I believed in you,
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you,
you're taking over me.
She cannot keep this person out of her thoughts, but she does not seem to want them to go away. She'll do anything to create this relationship, it reminds me of a child's need for their mother. The child begs and pleads for the only love it can understand. She cannot feel safe without this person.
Have you forgotten all I know,
and all we had?
You saw me mourning my love for you,
and touched my hand.
I knew you loved me then.
This closeness she feels with this person is strong and she feels at one point this person saw her, saw how she felt and tried to show some sort of feeling back towards her. Or maybe she just feel they tried while they never actully did, her complete need for them has created an imaginary feeling that maybe at one point this person actually cared. She's deluding herself to placate her desperation and need.
I look in the mirror and see your face.
If I look deep enough.
So many things inside that are just like
you are taking over.
She has deluded herself so much that the person has officialy "taken over" her everyday life. Her soul is all apart of them, her insanity has brought her down to the level of not being able to live, carry on, without this person. -
I think it's about just becoming obsessed with someone.
