Mr. Jack Lyrics

Hey Mr. Jack,
Is that the mouthwash in your eyes,
Hey Mr. jack,
Is that the cause of your surprise,
Hey where you at,
On the side of the freeway in the car,
Hey where you at,
On the side of the freeway in the car.
In the car.

On the...

I think this song is about a drug dealer who is caught by the police..And was running from them and he had a stand off on the side of a freeway. So the song is explaining what "mr. Jack" is seeing as the police (little men/pigs) are pointing their "big guns" at his head.

Also, they say "put your hands up! Get out of the car! Saying the police are trying to get him out so he will give up..But he returns that in saying "f**k you pig!" so I think at the very end, because the song stops so ubruptly, they shoot mr. Jack.

Thats just my interpretation though. Its probably wrong, but that's what I think that song is about

If you look at the "Toxicity" album cover, you'll see Serj thanks "Mr. Jack for Mass Relaxaciones". Mr. Jack is their pot dealer. "Is that the mouthwash in your eyes" = red eyed. Mr. Jack has been pulled over and System is mad at authority because they're out of ganja.

Wow to the guy who said it's about Jack the Ripper? Cars + Jack the Ripper? Really? I guess he was driving one of those cool 1888 Ford Model A Mustangs huh? Wow, ignorance abounds... I guess you really did your research...When exactly was he known as the Freeway Mass Murderer? I suppose those "unfortunates" were driving old beat up 1870's Ford Pintos that had a known nasty habit of breaking down allowing them to be easy targets at the corner of Osborne and George Yard. Sheesh... Shoulda got a tune up I guess. At least points and plugs.

I could be just saying nonsense, but this song probably means a drug dealer getting caught by the police. "Hey Mr. Jack, is that the mouthwash in your eyes?" means that his eyes are bloodshot because of all the weed he smoked. "Hey Mr. Jack, is that the cause of your surprise?" means the guy asking Mr. Jack never saw him buy from him. "Hey where you at? On the side of the freeway in the car." means the guy is looking for Mr. Jack.
Sorry but I'm only doing this part of the lyrics because I'm lazy.

So ready for this mindfuck? I was just on Instagram on Shavo's page and he's friends with a guy mrjack36 and Serj follows him too. I think he's a real dude on whom the song is based. either that or this song actually is about a dealer and now they have in an act of homage to their current dealer have named him mr jack and he rolls with it.

OK, first off, in the album it says thanks to mr jack for all the mass relaxations. Therefore this song is about their pot dealer getting busted. System of a down is hardly a political band. And the jack the ripper thing is completely off because of my first statement. <3 jack is their pot dealer. He got arrested. About 30% of their songs are political. Get your facts straight. “System of a Down are one of the most misunderstood bands around. I mean, Armenian rock? What the fuck is that? Political? I could name so many more of our songs that aren't about politics than ones that are. And for a long time, everyone thought Serj wrote all of our tunes. Until this album came out, people thought he wrote all the lyrics. So there are so many different misunderstandings of System of a Down that I don't even let it bother me anymore. I'm just kind of used to it. Our first bio said something like 'four guys based out of LA who are Armenian and political,' and, well, it wasn't really right at all. I mean, we are all Armenian, but we didn't plan that.” - Daron Malakian

As with a lot of System songs they are talking about civil right being violated that is especially present in this song. Why MR.Jack is being pulled over is only relevant to the writers of the song (as they are the ones who saw the situation). One thing that is certain is that they felt rather strongly that the altercation was unfair and unjustified. The song ends with Serj and Darren screaming "FUCK YOU PIG! FUCK YOU PIG!!" which is intense and deliberate to indicate the feeling of the situation.

Well considering Jack the Ripper those prostitutes in 1888 and Cars weren't readily available to the public until 1903 and still by that time very few people were able to afford a car. Jack would have traveled by horse drawn coach not by car, and he always struck at night, he would've been long gone by 7:00 AM in fact he probably wouldn't have been outside after 3:00 to prevent becoming a suspect, he was very smart.

First, it is not Jack the Ripper. Jack the Ripper was named in 1888. The first automobile was invented just before the turn of the century 1898. Jack the Ripper finished his spree in Whitecastle in 1891.

There is a possibility that Mr. Jack could be a drug dealer and SOAD was out of some of the finer things in life.

I believe it is a generic name like John Doe. Mr. Jack is a man who is in trouble with the law. The reasoning is due to him being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The arresting officer held him accountable for things that he was not guilty off. Things got out of hand which inevitably led to Mr. Jack getting the short end of the deal. Mr. Jack is you, I, Rodney King, Andrew Meyer, Abner Louima, etc.

For clarification, System of A Down is not against policing. They are against those in power taking advantage of anything and anyone who are not them. Those that they see as 'smaller'.

You know, it's so obvious. Serge got a speeding ticket. One night coming home from a gig. Caught in a speed trap, he was rip shit and of course, he was buzzin' and a bit tweaked out. So, he took a shot at the cop. the cop got pissed and called for back-up. It just happened to be around 7AM.

He wound up in the joint for a bit and started remembering his shitty childhood in the catholic church and wrote Forest. I know the rest of songs too...except for Mushroom People. That tune is whacked.

Mr. Jack, is about a Science Teacher in California. He was System of a Down's favorite teacher. His car used to break down a lot, and that's the reason of "Getting pulled over".

My teacher, Jack.. is also Armenian and was a teacher of SOAD.

I think it's about four men 2 of them were best friends the other two just people they knew randomly... all four of them did a crime and the other two that weren't there friends found out the cop was on to them so they framed the two friends and at 7 am mourning the SWAT team/FBI came to take them away so they jumped out the window but one of them broke there leg and couldn't make it he was shot the other one got to the car in time and drove away but they cut them off on the freeway and they gave them a warning to put his hands up and get out of the car but didn't want to go in so he refused then was shot

I also believe this song, as with most of SOAD songs have multiple meanings. However Serj has said about a few different songs that there is no actual meaning & for people to interpret them anyway they can.... Also i've heard from my best friend & a few other sources that THIS SONG is about (Their good friend) Jack Osbourne & how he got pulled over while being stoned & his eyes were red so the dumby that he is, he put mouthwash in his eyes so when it started 2 burn the cops thought he was crazy & he was yelling "F*ck you pig!"

Well I actually did think this song was about jack the ripper but the thing is jack ripper never raped any of the girls he killed and he dint do any killing by the side of the freeway, were they even call freeways back then? anyhow I don't think its really him they are talking about.
